Cycling South America: Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile.
There’s no such thing as a ‘flat’ road in Peru. It’s like a rollercoaster ride above 4000 and even 5000 meter. From one high pass down to cross a stream and up again to another pass. In a matter of one or two hours we drop 2000 meter, to climb up again in the next days. When we reach the highest point at 5000 meters, we are completely alone. Haven’t seen a car in days, there’s nothing here but a breathtaking view.

Perfectly matching and rounded stones are forming the walls of the Inca ruins near Cusco. Pisac, Ollantaytambo, ‘Sexywoman’ and most importantly ‘Machu Picchu’. We discover the Sacred Valley and take the train to Aguas Calientes to visit the Inca ruins of all Inca ruins.
“Hey lady, want massage? Special price for special friend!” Uhh, is this Thailand? No, it’s Cusco, Peru! By walking around Plaza the Armas within minutes your shoes are polished, you’re bound to board a tourist bus or there’s a guinea pig on your plate! “Maybe later!” 🙂
Bolivia is fun, Bolivia is a surprise, Bolivia is diverse and the Bolivians are very friendly. So, we decide not to take the quick route to La Paz, but to ‘stroll’ a bit around the country. Just because we can!
For weeks now, or probably months, we’ve been cycling through desert like landscapes, I can hardly remember the last tree we’ve seen! It’s time for green, time for trees, time for birds. We are on our way to Santa Cruz!
Cycling the Laguna route in South West Bolivia; from San Pedro de Atacama in Chile to Uyuni in Bolivia. Crossing multiple high altitude passes, pushing our bikes through deep sand, freezing nights (-21 degrees Celsius!!), the amazing Salar de Uyuni… a must see!

The icy winds are slamming into my face, my lips are split, my toes are freezing cold and at over 4600 meter I am pushing my heavily loaded bicycle through deep sand.. I can’t see the beauty anymore. I’m alone with my thoughts…
San Pedro de Atacama is a chill place to be with its adobe houses and nice restaurants. It’s here, that we meet Myles for the first time! And, it’s here we meet our New Caledonian friends JB and Marion again! The four of us decide to rent a car for a day and do a little siteseeing in the area. One book closes, the other one opens. We say farewell to beautiful Argentina and look back at this amazing country with a lot of joy. Farewell Argentina, farewell Pomelo!
