The places where we have cycled.
We’ve reached the end of the world! And what better place can you pick to celebrate New Years? Right! So, we set out to Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego to celebrate a new year full of cycling adventure!
The places where we have cycled.
Every cyclist will tell you the same: the winds in Patagonia are terrible! And then you think.. “Yeah, right, it can’t be that bad, right?” True.. it’s even worse! Swaying from one side to the other, fall of your bike with a very strong wind gust, the noise! No way to set up your tent here.., yeah, the wind is that bad…
Wow, Patagonia is something else! We visit Peninsula Valdes and see whales, penguins, sea lions and the endless, and I mean, endless pampa’s! We decide not to continue on Ruta 3 all the way down and head inland on Ruta 25 to Ruta 40. Apart from the wind, it was a wise decison.
Usually we avoid big cities, but Buenos Aires is one city we would like to visit. And with the ferry from Uruguay dropping us of in downtown BA, it’s an easy one to enter without all the hassle a big city usually brings.
Our third country on this adventure across the Americas; Uruguay or is it Teletubby country?
Our first kilometers in Argentina and many more will follow! We enter this huge country in the North East and cycle through the Missiones provence to stay away from the busy highway with no shoulder and find ourselves on a detour in search for crocs and capibaras in Esteros del Iberá.
Our first 1000 kilometers are a fact! Here we are, it’s raining cats and dogs and all we see is clouds… this is the reason why we started in Sao Paulo.. this is not funny! Behinds those clouds are the famous waterfalls of Foz do Iguacu and we decide it’s better to return with sunny weather and so we do..
Brasil is huge! But we were definately here for one reason: Foz do Iguazu! Watch our movie now.
The first kilometers of this long distance adventure are a fact and slowly we start to realise our dream is real now and that the road ahead is long and empty; we have embarked on a new and exciting life!
A new Santos Travel Lite 29-er, let’s test it! We drove to the Ardennes in Belgium to ride the La Redoute, a 20% steep hill, among many other little climbs. Fully loaded, a nice camping weekend.
